A man goes on a date with his female secretary, unaware that his wife is seated behind them – Story of the Day

Sandra suspects her husband, Mark, of infidelity when she sees him with a young woman. Her discovery of evidence intensifies her suspicion, but she’s unprepared for the shocking truth Mark reveals during their confrontation.

Sandra laughed loudly as Janet shared a funny story about her foster son’s mishap, but she quieted down when she noticed disapproving glances from other diners at the upscale Mexican restaurant where they were dining. “The things we do for kids,” Janet smiled. “You and Mark should consider fostering. It’s fulfilling.”

Sandra sighed, poking at the lime wedge on her Carnitas plate. She harbored doubts about bonding with a foster child and felt the ache of not being able to have children of her own with Mark. “Isn’t that Mark over there?” Janet suddenly said, catching Sandra’s attention.

Sandra leaned to get a better look past the lush plants surrounding their table. “He might be here for a business meeting. Sometimes he brings clients here for lunch.”

“There, just past the large chiminea,” Janet pointed out.

Sandra smiled when she spotted Mark weaving through the tables around the chiminea in the center of the dining room. She was about to wave when he slid into a booth behind them.

“Sorry I’m late, honey,” Mark said, smiling at a beautiful young woman and kissing her hand.

Sandra’s heart raced. Janet whispered, “I’m not sure that’s a business meeting, sweetie.” Tears welled in Sandra’s eyes. Despite their twenty-year marriage, was Mark having an affair?

“But maybe I’m wrong,” Janet continued in a forced cheerful whisper. “I mean, sometimes I flirt a bit with potential clients to break the ice. Maybe Mark’s doing the same.”

“No, we both know what’s going on over there, Janet,” Sandra hissed, gripping her fork. “I’m going over there to tell him off.”

“Whoa!” Janet grabbed Sandra’s arm and pulled her back into the booth. “You can’t just go over and confront him, Sandy. This looks shady, but there could be an explanation.”

“You’re right,” Sandra sighed, calming down.

They discreetly observed Mark and the woman behind a palm tree, imagining the worst when Mark and the woman became cozy, hiding their faces behind menus.

When the waitress asked if everything was okay, Sandra pointed out Mark’s table. “They come here often,” the waitress said.

“Are they always that close?” Sandra asked.

The waitress frowned. “I’m sorry, but why are you so interested?”

Janet cut in smoothly, “My friend and I were just discussing whether we should post a photo of him online, in case he’s cheating.”

The waitress shook her head. “Sorry, but this place can’t be associated with scandal. If I catch you taking photos that aren’t of food, I’ll have to notify management.”

“Well, we wouldn’t want any trouble,” Janet smiled brightly, signaling for the bill. “Could we get this to go, please? We have to go.”

The next day, following a plan with Janet, Sandra brought lunch to Mark’s office to see if the woman was there. She froze when she saw the same woman from the restaurant with Mark.

“Sandy!” Mark exclaimed. “What are you doing here?”

“I brought lunch,” Sandra replied, introducing herself to the woman. “Hello, I’m Sandra, Mark’s wife.”

“You’re Sandra?” The woman shook Sandra’s hand enthusiastically. “Mark has told me so much about you. I’m Eliza, Mark’s…”

“Secretary!” Mark interrupted, rushing over. “Eliza is my secretary. We were just working on the presentation for tonight’s launch.”

Sandra looked suspiciously at Mark. “You never mentioned your old secretary had left.”

“Nina got promoted to work with Mr. Davies,” Mark explained. “Eliza is her replacement. She’s great at admin and has a knack for the creative side.”

“You should be telling Davies that, not me,” Sandra said, eyeing Eliza’s earrings. “Those are beautiful.”

“They were a gift from my father,” Eliza explained quickly.

“Did you bring all this way down here just for me?” Mark grinned, pretending to be excited about lunch. “Thanks, honey. But Eliza and I already ate.”

Sandra glanced at the lunch containers in the trash. “I hope you avoided all the sodium and sugar. I’ll take it to the interns in the break room.”

Mark asked Sandra to come to the launch later, but she declined, disappointed by his reaction to her suggestion.

Sandra went home and told Janet about Eliza’s earrings. Janet showed her a receipt for the earrings, saying she didn’t want to know where she got it. “Oh my God,” Sandra gasped, tossing the receipt aside. “Eliza looked me in the eye and said those earrings were from her father. That little witch!”

“We’ll confront him at the launch,” Sandra decided. Janet raised an eyebrow. “At a work event?”

“It seems fitting since he’s sleeping with his secretary!” Sandra snapped, feeling betrayed. “What did I do wrong, Janet? Should I have tried harder or gotten Botox? Maybe I should have gotten breast implants. She lifted her breasts with her hands. “It’s not you, Sandy. It mainBundle all
