A Woman Takes A Picture Of A Man And His Daughter After Observing A Small Detail, Triggering A Police Inquiry

Please note: The following story, originally reported in September 2016, is being republished.

In a concerning event at a Cleveland Walmart, authorities are actively investigating following the circulation of photos on social media showing a man allegedly forcefully gripping his daughter’s hair onto a shopping cart.

Eyewitnesses Erika Burch and her husband, Robert Burch, observed the distressing scene unfold one Monday afternoon. Erika Burch described the man’s actions as dragging the little girl by her hair, while the child pleaded, “Please stop. I promise I won’t do it again. Please stop!”

Erika Burch promptly took several photos of the man and the distressed child and courageously confronted him, urging him to release the girl’s hair. The man defiantly responded, “No, you need to mind your own business.”

Robert Burch expressed shock, stating, “He dragged that baby around the store.”

Another shopper, Ora Schumann, witnessed the incident and noted that the man appeared angered because the child wasn’t standing close to the shopping cart. According to Schumann, the man grabbed the girl by her hair, pulled her toward the basket, and reprimanded her. The child apologized, saying, “I’m sorry I won’t do that again, I’m sorry.”

Erika Burch immediately called the police, expressing deep concern for the child’s well-being. Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard stated they are actively collaborating with Child Protective Services (CPS) on the investigation.

CPS reported they are examining the household to determine if there are other children and investigating whether the man exhibits a “pattern of behavior.”

Photos shared by Erika Burch on Facebook have gained significant attention, with over 18,000 shares. Many individuals expressed distress and concern for the child’s well-being.

Opinions on the disciplinary methods varied. While some disagreed with the man’s actions, others cautioned against quick judgment, suggesting the child may have needed discipline.

As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation continues. The incident has sparked broader conversations about parental discipline and appropriate actions in public spaces.
