Whoopi’s Reaction To Joy’s On-Air ‘Insult’ On The View
Note: This story revisits events originally reported in February 2023.
Whoopi Goldberg couldn’t contain her laughter when Joy Behar revealed a surprising detail about her past on The View. Behar, a longtime cohost of the beloved show, shared that she was actually “happy” about being let go back in 2013.
As the conversation heated up, Behar, who joined the show with Barbara Walters in 1997, recalled a 2022 interview with Time magazine where she expressed her relief over leaving the talk-show environment.
“I’ve always valued friendships at work, and if I don’t have friends around, I’m not sticking around,” Behar explained. “When I was fired last time, people asked how I felt. Honestly? I was happy! My friends had already moved on, so why stay? It was that simple.”
Whoopi, who was a regular on The View when Behar exited, was astonished. “Really? All your friends left?” she inquired, prompting a moment of stunned silence from the audience.
In a playful moment, the Oscar-winning actress feigned tears, assuring everyone, “No worries, I’m fine.”
Behar added, “You had just joined, and my backstage buddies were long gone. I’m not the type to work without friends,” while Goldberg noted their long-standing friendship, playfully teasing her cohost.
The duo had been a staple on The View before Behar’s first departure in 2013. She made a comeback in 2015, while also hosting two solo talk shows: The Joy Behar Show from 2009 to 2011 and Joy Behar: Say Anything! in 2012.
Known for her candid opinions, Behar isn’t one to shy away from controversy. During the recent episode, she stated confidently, “Joe Biden and I are cut from the same cloth. Do you think I can’t handle my role for the next four years? Of course, I can.” This bold declaration earned her applause from the audience. “As for the critics, they can find something else to do because I’m not leaving this seat anytime soon.”
In the constantly changing landscape of The View, the blend of drama and friendship continues to captivate fans of daytime talk.
