Vegan Files Lawsuit Against Neighbors Over BBQ, Neighbors Organize Community Gathering In Response

Cilla Carden, a resident of Girrawheen, took her neighbors to the Supreme Court, requesting that they cease their barbecues, smoking, and playing sports in their backyard.

Carden expressed her frustration about the odor of cooking meat coming from next door. “All I can smell is fish; it’s unbearable. I can’t enjoy my own backyard,” she stated.

As a massage therapist, she was also upset by the cigarette smoke drifting into her space and the noise from children playing basketball.

“It’s been overwhelming; I haven’t been able to sleep,” she added.

One neighbor invited 9News into their yard, showing that they had stopped the children from playing basketball and removed the barbecue.

Carden brought her complaints to the State Administrative Tribunal and later the Supreme Court, claiming, “It’s intentional, that’s what I told the courts.”

Ultimately, both the Supreme Court Judge and the State Administrative Tribunal rejected her case, and her appeal was also turned down.

Despite this, she vowed to continue her fight and return to court soon.
