Tragic Death Of 18-Year-Old College Student During Afternoon Stroll

In a tragic event that has deeply affected the Nashville community, 18-year-old college freshman Jillian Ludwig lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet while walking on a track. Local authorities reported that Ludwig was in “extremely critical condition” on Tuesday afternoon and sadly passed away from her injuries later that night.

A 29-year-old man named Shaquille Taylor was initially arrested and charged with aggravated assault and evidence tampering related to the incident. Following Ludwig’s death, officials are consulting with the District Attorney’s Office to consider revising the charges against Taylor.

The shooting occurred as Taylor allegedly fired at a vehicle from across the street, unintentionally hitting Ludwig in the head while she was at Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park.

Ludwig, originally from New Jersey, was a freshman at Belmont University in Nashville, where she was actively involved in the community and had a deep passion for music. Greg Jones, the president of Belmont University, expressed condolences, noting that Ludwig was a music business major and a bass player. She was known for her enthusiastic support of fellow musicians at concerts and enjoyed running and outdoor activities.

In response to this tragedy, President Jones announced a Prayer Service to be held at noon at the Bell Tower, inviting the community to come together in support of Ludwig’s family. The university is providing assistance to students, with faculty and staff offering support during this difficult time.
