Imagine being a pre-teen in 2023 and being the only one in your class without a smartphone. For Pink’s daughter, Willow, 12, this is a reality. The pop star, known for her rebellious and straightforward approach, has made it clear that social media isn’t the ultimate form of communication.
In interviews promoting her latest album, Pink, 44, revealed her distinctive parenting philosophy. She’s known for her tough-love approach with her children, Willow and Jameson, 7. Pink views the world as a challenging place, requiring her kids to be well-prepared and discerning.
During a lively appearance on KTU 103.5 FM’s “Carolina With Greg T In The Morning Show,” Pink discussed her decision to keep her kids off social media. Balancing her desire to protect their innocence with preparing them for reality, Pink explained why her children don’t have phones.
While Willow’s peers might envy or be relieved by her phone-free status, Pink remains firm in her choice. “It’s tough,” Pink admitted. “Many of my friends let their kids use TikTok, but I don’t. I told Willow, ‘What others do with their kids doesn’t affect me. You’re my child.’”
Being the child of a famous person means added scrutiny. Pink emphasized to Willow that anything she posts online would attract more attention than her friends’ posts, creating a situation Willow may not be ready for.
Despite the restrictions, Willow isn’t completely cut off from communication. She has a smartwatch that allows her to text her mom when necessary. Pink’s rule about having a phone is clear: “I told Willow, ‘If you can find credible evidence that social media is beneficial for you, then you can use it. Otherwise, it’s not happening.’”
Pink’s ultimatum comes with a touch of humor, as she playfully suggests Willow might one day find that elusive research and change the situation. For now, it remains a challenge.
Even with these limitations, Pink makes sure her children’s lives are not entirely dominated by her celebrity. Willow and Jameson have accompanied Pink on recent tours, though with adjustments to maintain some normalcy.
Before embarking on another tour, Pink shared her thoughts: “I’m fortunate to have my kids with me, and it’s wonderful to see them with my band’s children as well.”
