Robert Irwin Suffers Head Injury In Unusual Accident Involving A Tree
Robert Irwin: Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Steve Irwin, famously known as the Crocodile Hunter, inspired millions to care for and protect wildlife. Among those most deeply influenced by his legacy is his own family, especially his son, Robert Irwin. At 20, Robert has taken on many of the same roles as his father: zookeeper, conservationist, TV personality, and wildlife photographer. Despite his work with dangerous creatures like snakes and crocodiles, Robert is known for his boundless enthusiasm, positive energy, and charismatic personality. This was clearly visible during his appearance at the 2024 Logie Awards, though it’s just one example among many.
A Memorable Moment at the Logies
Robert attended the 2024 Logie Awards, but before stepping onto the red carpet in Sydney, he had spent the day catching crocodiles for research. Even after suffering an injury during his adventure, he arrived at the event with a beaming smile.
“I just came straight from catching crocodiles up north,” he casually mentioned to hosts Dr. Chris Brown and Sonia Kruger. “I got my head smashed into a tree. I was on a croc’s head. It was a big makeup job, but I’m here. I’m excited and pumped, and I get to do it with one of my best mates,” referring to his co-host on the show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
On Instagram, Robert shared a post with the caption: “From croc country to the Logies red carpet!” alongside a photo of him covered in mud, capturing his adventurous spirit.
Family Support
Robert’s sister, Bindi, expressed her pride in his achievements. “The entire croc trip team is cheering for you back here on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve,” she wrote on social media.
Although Robert didn’t win any of the awards he was nominated for, he still called it “a night to remember.”
A Heartfelt Tribute to His Father
In a touching Instagram post, Robert shared memories of riding around Australia Zoo on his father’s motorbike. “Every time I ride that bike and take the same route Dad did, it brings back so many memories,” he wrote, recalling how much the motorbike meant to his father.
A Wildlife Encounter at the Gym
In July, Robert had a chance encounter with a microbat during a workout. While many would be startled, Robert calmly examined the bat for injuries and placed it on a ledge to fly away when ready. He shared the encounter on social media, urging his followers to handle wildlife safely and avoid direct contact with bats.
Caring for an Injured Snake
In August, Robert came across a Northern tree snake with an injured tail. He carefully handled the snake and educated his Instagram followers about the species, cautioning them not to pick up snakes without proper knowledge. Fortunately, this snake was non-venomous and healthy enough to return to its habitat after being checked over.
A Devoted Uncle
In addition to his love for animals, Robert is a dedicated uncle to his 3-year-old niece, Grace. His social media is filled with moments celebrating her milestones, from learning to walk to enjoying playful times together.
Walking the Runway
In March, Robert took on a new challenge by walking the runway at the 2024 Melbourne Fashion Festival. His signature smile beamed across the stage, surprising some fans who might have expected the usual serious modeling expressions.
A Family Legacy of Animal Love
In a January post, Robert shared a photo of himself as a child alongside a picture of his father, both holding chameleons with identical grins. “The love for chameleons must be genetic,” he wrote, highlighting their shared enthusiasm for animals.
Supporting His Sister’s Health Journey
Robert has been a vocal supporter of his sister Bindi, who opened up about her struggles with endometriosis. After her surgery to remove lesions in 2023, Robert emphasized the importance of discussing women’s health issues, especially in Australia, where he feels the conversation is only just beginning. “I’ve never been prouder to call Bindi my sister,” he said, acknowledging her courage in raising awareness about the condition.
