Family Documents What They Found On McDonald’s Sandwiches With A Camera

Note: This story is being revisited as it initially appeared in the news in August 2017.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has accused a McDonald’s location of deliberately including bacon in a meal ordered by a Muslim family (see video below).

While visiting from New York, the family went to a McDonald’s in Decatur and ordered 14 sandwiches, according to AL.com.

Upon eating, they discovered bacon in their food, which is prohibited in Islam.

Khaula Hadeed, the head of CAIR’s Alabama chapter, stated, “They noticed an unusual taste. They regularly eat McChicken sandwiches at McDonald’s and are familiar with their contents.”

Hadeed believes this incident was a deliberate act against the family.

“It seems unlikely to be an error, especially across 14 sandwiches,” Hadeed said, describing the incident as “an intentional act of religious and ethnic bigotry.”

Hadeed is calling for an investigation and reports that one of the adults in the family was sickened twice afterward.

“The family is deeply troubled by this,” Hadeed noted.

She has urged McDonald’s to look into the matter, identify and dismiss the responsible employees, and address the family’s concerns with an apology.

The story has sparked intense debate online.

Some people expressed sympathy for the family and supported the claims.

“I’ve witnessed ‘good Christians’ doing harmful things to those who are different,” commented one reader on AL.com. “While I can’t confirm what happened here, I believe someone might have intentionally added bacon to the sandwiches to insult and harm the family. Such actions are un-American.”

Another user added, “Decatur is known for its extreme right-wing and religiously intolerant attitudes.”

Conversely, some were skeptical of the claims.

“This seems like a scam,” wrote one commenter, suggesting the family might have chosen an Alabama McDonald’s to attract more media attention. “They probably picked this location to get more publicity than if they had chosen a McDonald’s in New York City.”

Another respondent doubted the involvement of McDonald’s staff, stating, “The employees in the back usually don’t pay attention to who the customers are.”
