Local Residents Upset About Construction Of Taxpayer-Funded Barrier Around Private Property For ‘Safety’ Purposes
Note: This article revisits a story initially reported in January 2023.
President Biden’s ongoing development of security measures around his vacation property in Delaware takes an unexpected turn, as construction on a taxpayer-funded barrier around his home accelerates. This occurs while Biden continues to oppose the construction of border walls along the southern U.S. border.
Recent images acquired by Fox News highlight the beginning of the wall’s construction around Biden’s Rehoboth Beach residence. The cost for this security upgrade amounts to approximately $490,324, funded by taxpayers through a government contract managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The photos show the progress on the installation of a significant white fence and sturdy gray stone pillars around the property. A notable half-wall of gray stone and a large black iron gate feature prominently at the entrance.
The planning for this wall dates back to 2021 when DHS approved a contract to enhance security at the presidential retreat. The expense has surged to nearly $500,000, an increase of $34,000 from the initial contract with Turnstone Holdings LCC, according to a report by Fox News Digital in August.
The completion of Biden’s home barrier is anticipated by September.
During the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden committed to halting all border wall construction, vowing that no additional sections would be built if he became president. He emphasized his intention to use advanced technology for border protection, focusing on critical areas like ports of entry where illicit activities are prevalent.
True to his promise, Biden ceased all new border wall projects upon his inauguration in January 2021 and urged Congress to withdraw funding for such endeavors. However, the administration faced criticism for approving a new section of the border wall in Yuma, Arizona, in July 2022, following a request from Senator Mark Kelly to strengthen the border.
In a surprising development, the administration took legal action against Arizona in December, filing a lawsuit over the state’s use of shipping containers to build a border wall and address illegal immigration. The lawsuit claimed the state was encroaching on federal lands.
During a recent visit to the border in El Paso, Texas, Biden avoided sections of the wall constructed or enhanced by former President Trump, opting instead to visit an older section of the barrier.
