16-Year-Old Girl Discovered Deceased In Starbucks Restroom; Customers Notice What’s Next To Her Body

Note: This story, first reported in August 2016, is being revisited.

A 16-year-old girl was discovered deceased from an apparent overdose in a Starbucks restroom.

Gwynevere Staddon was found unresponsive in the bathroom of a Port Moody Starbucks by a staff member, according to Global News.

Port Moody police indicated that the teenager could not be revived despite the efforts of emergency personnel. She was found with a small quantity of drugs and related items.

Her mother, Veronica Staddon, believes her daughter likely died from a fentanyl overdose, as reported by CBC. The official cause of death is still pending.

On Facebook, Veronica shared her grief, saying, “My best friend, my daughter, my sweetheart baby … I will never stop missing you. My heart is shattered.”

Veronica revealed that Gwynevere had been battling substance abuse issues for a period. Before her passing, Gwynevere had assured her mother that she had been clean for three weeks.

“I’ve quit, so I’m OK now, Mom,” Gwynevere had told Veronica. “It was calling out her name, and so she thought, ‘One more time.’ That last time turned out to be the end.”

Veronica had explored the option of rehabilitation for her daughter, but was deterred by long waitlists for public services and the high costs of private clinics.

“If I don’t have $50,000 readily available, those resources are out of reach,” she told CBC.

Veronica expressed her sorrow, stating, “The world has lost a natural performer, or perhaps a future politician.”

She is advocating for stronger actions against drug dealers and better support for rehabilitation services.
