Teenage Girl Dealt A Blow Of Prom Rejection, But When A Renowned Voice Echoes Through The School’s PA System, Chaos Ensues
In April 2018, a Minnesota high school student made headlines with a memorable promposal involving Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock.
Dressed in an outfit reminiscent of Johnson’s signature style—complete with a black turtleneck, jeans, and a fanny pack—Katie Kelzenberg used Twitter to invite the actor to her prom.
Kelzenberg, a student at Stillwater Area High School in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, was surprised when her school’s intercom system played a recorded message from The Rock himself in response to her invitation.
In the message, Johnson acknowledged the unusual situation, saying, “You might be wondering why The Rock is on your intercom. Well, I’m sending a shout-out to a very special person. Katie, I know you might be feeling embarrassed, but I want to say how cool and awesome you are.”
Kelzenberg’s reaction to the message was one of sheer delight.
Johnson, who was in Hawaii filming “Jungle Cruise,” explained that he couldn’t make it to the prom. Instead, he arranged for Kelzenberg, along with her friends and family, to enjoy a private screening of his movie “Rampage” in a local theater.
He also sent Kelzenberg a similar message on Instagram, advising her, “I hope you have a great time at prom. Whether you go with a date or just your friends, I hope you enjoy yourself!”
