Charlee Campbell, a two-year-old from Lebanon Junction, and her dog Penny were missing for almost two days before emerging from the woods. While Charlee was safely returned home, the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for further details.
Charlee’s grandmother, Beth Campbell, expressed her astonishment and relief at Charlee’s safe return, stating that she is grateful her granddaughter, who lives with her, is alive.
Beth remarked, “When I was told that Charlee was found, I was overwhelmed with happiness.” She praised Penny, saying, “This dog is our hero,” and believes that Penny stayed close to Charlee throughout the ordeal.
Beth described Penny’s loyalty, saying, “When my dog and my baby were missing, she was determined to stay with Charlee until she was found.”
According to authorities, Penny returned home shortly before Charlee was discovered at a neighbor’s house, which was several hundred yards away.
Beth expressed her immense joy, saying, “I’m overjoyed that Charlee is home. She means the world to me.”
Wayne Brown, who discovered Charlee, shared that he had been praying for her safety when he noticed a blonde-haired girl in his backyard.
Brown’s personal experience with a missing loved one added emotional depth to the reunion. He recounted his own brother’s disappearance and tragic death years earlier, saying, “It was my uncle who found my brother, but he was deceased.”
After finding Charlee, Brown provided her with water and contacted emergency services. He remains puzzled by how Charlee was not found during the extensive search efforts.
The Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search from Brown’s property along Roy Layne Road down to Charlee’s home, trying to locate any clues or traces with the help of search dogs.
Charlee’s family reported that she was in the hospital on Saturday morning but was in stable condition.
