A Woman Marries a Marine with a 4-Year-Old Son; The Ceremony Proceeds Smoothly Until She Whispers Six Words to the Boy

Leehan and Newville met at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Trenton, New Jersey, and after three years of dating, Newville proposed on July 18, 2016. During their relationship, Leehan grew close to young Gage and wanted to include him in their wedding ceremony in a special way.
To make the wedding meaningful, Leehan decided to recite vows to Gage. When she shared her idea with Newville, he embraced it as a beautiful surprise. They planned to create a special moment for Gage during the ceremony.

The memorable moment took place on July 22, at the altar in Ripley, New York, with Gage standing between the couple. In the viral video, Leehan’s heartfelt words to Gage brought tears to his eyes. She expressed her hopes for him to be safe and grow up to be a good person, words that deeply moved the young boy.
Newville described the scene: “I was trying not to lose it more than I already had—I think I was tearing up before the vows even started, just because of the sentiment that day—then when I saw Gage tear up, I was trying not to tear up with him.”

Gage’s emotional reaction was surprising, as he typically doesn’t show such intense emotions, though he does get concerned about “sad things.” He enjoys superheroes and Star Wars, with Spider-Man, Batman, and Paw Patrol among his favorites.
An important factor in the success of this heartwarming wedding was the support of Gage’s biological mother, Kali Nuckols. The couple has since returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and is considering a honeymoon once they save enough money. This special day highlighted that life’s most cherished moments often come without a price tag.
