Michael Jordan, Overwhelmed With Sorrow, Mourns The Pain In His Heart

Michael Jordan expressed his condolences for the passing of Jerry West, a revered figure in basketball, during an appearance on First Take.

News broke earlier today of West’s passing at the age of 86, surrounded by loved ones, marking the end of an era for the NBA legend.

Numerous tributes poured in for West, highlighting his prowess both on and off the basketball court.

During a segment on First Take, it was reported that Jordan, aged 61, reached out to Stephen A. Smith via text to share his sentiments live on air.

In his message relayed by Smith, Jordan expressed deep sadness at the news of West’s passing, describing him as a trusted friend and mentor, akin to an elder sibling. Jordan valued West’s friendship and wisdom, expressing regret that they never had the chance to play on the same team.

Fans reacted positively to Jordan’s tribute, with one remarking on his kindness, while others hailed West as the greatest general manager in NBA history, fondly remembering him as “The Logo.”

Smith, aged 56, recalled a personal encounter with West, during which West unexpectedly agreed with Smith’s suggestion that Jordan should replace him as the NBA logo. West admired Jordan as his favorite athlete and believed he deserved the honor.

A pivotal figure in NBA history, West played a crucial role in shaping the Los Angeles Lakers’ dynasty in the 1980s and was working as a consultant for the Los Angeles Clippers at the time of his passing.

In honor of his contributions, the Lakers erected a statue in West’s likeness in 2010, and he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019.
