Robber Injured By Citizen Defending Others; Response From Family Causes Controversy
Note: This story, originally in the news in November 2013, is being republished.
When Adric White broke into a Family Dollar and brandished his gun, demanding cash from the cashier, he thought he was in control. However, a Good Samaritan, armed with a legal concealed-carry license, intervened, turning the tables on the young robber.
The Samaritan instructed White not to move, but White defied the warning, leading to a confrontation where White was shot five times. Despite surviving, White faced charges of armed robbery and underwent treatment for his injuries.
White’s family protested the Samaritan’s actions, arguing that he should not have intervened. They questioned why the police hadn’t arrested him. However, it was deemed reasonable for the Samaritan to act in defense of the store’s employees, who were threatened by White’s actions.
The Samaritan, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed regret for the necessity of using his concealed carry in this manner, emphasizing that it was his first such encounter.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with armed robbery and the potential consequences for all involved.
