A Dairy Queen in Wisconsin Displays a ‘Controversial’ Sign, Owner Supports His Choice”

A Dairy Queen restaurant in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, gained attention for a note displayed on its front window, which has since gone viral online. The sign boldly asserts the restaurant’s “politically incorrect” stance, highlighting its use of traditional holiday greetings like “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and expressions of patriotism such as “God Bless America.”

Additionally, it mentions offering free sundaes and expressing gratitude to veterans on Veterans Day.

Kevin Scheunemann, the owner of the restaurant, defended the sign, explaining that it was put up nearly four years ago to affirm his and his staff’s commitment to their faith and country. Scheunemann stated that the sign was a response to a complaint about Christian music playing in the restaurant and that it has not caused further issues since then.

The sign gained renewed attention when a visitor from Oregon shared a photo of it on Facebook, expressing concerns about its perceived exclusivity. While some individuals support the sign’s message, others have criticized the person who shared the photo. However, local business owners have backed Scheunemann’s decision, asserting that patrons are free to leave if they disagree with the restaurant’s principles.

Residents of Kewaskum seem to interpret the sign as an expression of the owner’s beliefs, and Dairy Queen has clarified that Scheunemann’s stance does not reflect the corporation’s views. The company emphasized that all franchisees and employees are expected to treat customers with respect and dignity, regardless of their religious beliefs.
