A 14-year-old girl spent $200 to purchase an old caravan, but you won’t believe what she transformed it into!
Ellie Yeater doesn’t spend her summer days on video games, hanging out with friends, or lounging by the pool. Instead, the 14-year-old from Williamstown, West Virginia, embarked on an ambitious project: transforming a 1974 Wilderness camper into her own glamorous getaway, which she fondly calls a “Glamper.”
The term “glamper” combines the notions of “glamorous” and “camping,” and Ellie believes her revamped Wilderness camper will make camping much more enjoyable and less strenuous.
A diligent high school student with aspirations, Ellie meticulously saved up approximately $500 through chores, birthday money, and other activities to purchase and renovate the camper, as confirmed by her mother, Lori.
The camper was a mess when Ellie first laid eyes on it, having been used for both hunting and camping by its previous owners. But Ellie was undeterred by the daunting task ahead.
Inspired by her older brother Isaiah, who had built a small cabin for himself and his friends, Ellie decided she wanted a “cuter” and more convenient hangout spot closer to home, complete with Wi-Fi and electricity.
The renovation journey began with Ellie disassembling and thoroughly cleaning the camper. She then applied a fresh coat of paint in her favorite shade of aqua blue, transforming the interior from drab to vibrant.
With guidance from her grandfather Lawrence, Ellie learned basic carpentry skills and tackled tasks like bracing and hole-patching.
As the project progressed, Ellie enlisted the help of her grandmother Mary to upholster curtains and sofa cushions, while she installed new floor tiles.
Throughout the summer, Ellie scoured for decorations and accessories to personalize her glamper, drawing inspiration from Pinterest and her own creativity.
From retro electric fans to antique cameras, Ellie added the finishing touches with care and enthusiasm.
When asked about her plans for the completed glamper, Ellie envisioned peaceful moments of reading and playing the ukulele, as well as hosting sleepovers with friends.
