It concerns me”: Motorist invests $35,000 in a Hyundai, only to find it equipped with “basic buttons

“Despite investing $35,000 in a brand-new Hyundai, the owner has raised concerns about the presence of what they term ‘basic buttons,’ reminiscent of older, less expensive models.

This specific grievance was shared by creator Coker (@cokermgmt) in a TikTok video, garnering close to 44,000 views within a day. The creator clarified, ‘Don’t misunderstand, I adore my car,’ emphasizing that it’s the most luxurious vehicle they’ve ever owned. However, they find it disconcerting that certain buttons appear to lack functionality.

The hashtag suggests that the vehicle in question is a Hyundai Santa Fe. Comparing it with images of the 2023 model on the Hyundai website, the button in question should control personalized heating and air conditioning fan speed for the driver’s side (with a corresponding one for the passenger side).

While the 2024 edition boasts some upgrades, it still retains physical buttons for certain functions instead of touchscreen controls favored by other manufacturers. Additionally, it starts at nearly $34,000 for the base model, compared to around $29,000 for the 2023 edition driven by the creator.

Although Car and Driver’s review of the car was generally positive, highlighting Hyundai’s reputation for solid build quality and valuable features, some commenters shared their thoughts on the perceived ‘basic buttons’ and car pricing.

In response to remarks about the buttons, one commenter noted, ‘Even though my car is the highest trim model available, it still features basic buttons.’ Another jokingly teased, ‘Perhaps some buttons are intentionally left blank. My car has one due to a layout change, which annoys me.’

Regarding the pricing, opinions varied. One commenter questioned the $35,000 price tag for a Hyundai, while another argued that it’s essential to understand the current cost of cars.
